Grace after Meals, Card
Table Blessings from the Didache.
This prayer card contains the mealtime liturgy as found in the Didache. The prayer is similar to the traditional Grace after Meals prayer that Judaism proscribes for recitation after a meal containing bread.
Although the injunction to bless God before eating food is derived from rabbinic tradition, the commandment to bless after the meal is based upon a scriptural injunction.
It is derived from Deuteronomy 8:10, where God tells the Jewish people:
You shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.
When one is finished eating and is satiated, he is required to bless the Creator. Reciting a thanksgiving prayer after a meal is the customary way to fulfill this obligation.
